Nanotechnology the study of the control of matter on an atomic and molecular scale. There has been much debate on the future of implications of nanotechnology. Nanotechnology has the potential to create many new materials and devices with wide-ranging applications, such as in medicine, electronics, and energy production. PSU Assistant Professor of Chemistry Jeremiah Duncan presents “Nanotechnology: an Emerging Issue in Environmental Science and Policy,” Wednesday, Sept. 16, 4 p.m., in room 001 of the Boyd Science Center.

As a Science Policy Fellow at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (2005-2007), Dr. Duncan helped the Agency develop a framework for understanding and mitigating the environmental implications of nanomaterials.  This talk will cover the unique aspects of nanomaterials with regard to the challenges posed to current regulatory frameworks, the U.S. government’s role in promoting nanotechnology research, the EPA’s response to the emerging issues of nanotechnology, and the findings of a recent review on the environmental and human health implications of a specific nanomaterial.
