Just in time for our bees: The cause of colony collapse, maybe
Filed under Environment by david brooks at 1:22 pm
My wife is in the process of getting her first bee hive - the bees arrive in a couple of weeks; we have to finish setting up the hive soon. So I’m particularly interested to see that scientists from Spain say they have isolated a parasite that seems to be the sole cause of the widespread colony death called “colony collapse syndrome”. (Science Daily article here.) At least, it’s the only cause from the apiaries they studied in Spain; I’m not sure whether that would apply here, too.
As a sign of how important this issue is, the winter edition of the newsletter from the New Hampshire Beekeepers Association has a long article just detailing the symptoms and signs.
